There are several Committees that work to further the goals and objectives of the National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions. Additional committees will be added in the near future. Every state member is encouraged to participate on at least one committee. Existing committees of NASPCC are:
- Education and Best Practices Committee: Chair, Mona Ervin, Maine. Purpose: To develop educational materials for the National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions and to provide summaries of best practices from various state prostate cancer coalitions, all of which assist other state prostate cancer coalitions and improve the general public’s awareness about prostate cancer and the need for prostate cancer research and treatment programs.
- Advocacy: Chair, Phil Olsen, Hawaii, Assisted by Betty Gallo of New Jersey. Purpose: To present NASPCC’s voice before Congress and other organizations and to foster, promote and nurture programs and legislation which NASPCC deems essential for the protection of prostate cancer patients and for the development of new treatments and an eventual cure for prostate cancer.
- Fundraising and Development: Chair, Jan Marfyak, New Mexico. Purpose: To obtain financial support both for NASPCC program operations, including the development of additional state prostate cancer coalitions, and for assisting state prostate cancer coalitions in developing their own resources to finance state operations.
- Communications: Chair, Wendy Poage, Colorado. Purpose: To develop press releases and communications from NASPCC to the public; and, working with state prostate cancer coalitions and other prostate cancer-related organizations, to establish a national communications network which can support prostate cancer outreach activities and materials reflecting policies of NASPCC.
- Membership: Chair, Jerry Sims, Michigan. Purpose: To encourage state prostate cancer coalitions to participate in NASPCC and to verify the legitimacy and credentials of states wishing to participate in the National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions.
- Mentoring: Chair, John Sias, New Hampshire. Purpose: To strengthen existing coalitions and help develop new coalitions. Representatives with existing state coalitions will mentor individuals and groups who are forming new coalitions.
